Description: This British designed bayonet, dating back to the early 1900s, is a remarkable piece of militaria from the Great War era. Made in the United Kingdom, it is a testament to the craftsmanship of that time and is highly sought after by collectors of original period items. Its design and construction have stood the test of time, and it remains in excellent condition, with no signs of wear or damage. The bayonet represents a significant piece of history, particularly pertaining to the WWI conflict. It is sure to be a prized addition to any collection. And, so much for the AI description. In the scabbard, the overall length is 23 1/4" and the blade length is 17". At some point in time, someone polished the blade and that unfortunately took away some of the markings on the left side of the blade. One can just barely see the date stamp of 1907. Below that is a 3 and then something that could be the British crown insignia. On the right side of the blade is the British arrow (infantry?), and below that is a larger X then a smaller "O" and "A". The wooden scales show slight signs of wear and are in overall good condition, especially considering they are over 100 years of age. The cutting edge of the blade is smooth with no nicks or gouges. Of course, the blade shows some scuff marks from the scabbard. The latch button works smoothly. I would classify this bayonet as in overall very good condition, but that is just my own opinion. YMMV.I just received some input from a knowledgeable source, and here is what he had to say."Hello you most definitely have a 1907 pattern bayonet. It’s made at the Orange Arsenal in Australia during WWII. Hope this helps."So, it is a model of 1907, although it was made sometime after 1939 and in Australia instead of Great Britain. At least I got the Bayonet part right. lol THE SECOND BAYONET is of unknown origin, but I have a feeling it might be German and it might be WWII. The wooden scales are in good condition and the scabbard is also, although there are a few small dents and the lug is missing. The bayonet and the sheath have both been polished but the blade does show where there was a bit of rust. I don't feel it detracts from its overall appearance. Overall in the sheath, it is 13 3/4" long. The bayonet overall is 12 7/8" and the blade itself is 8". The release mechanism works smoothly.
