NOTE: The front of the lower right corner has a crack(s) extending out along the bottom and near right edge, this is as it was received. The complete studio recordings, 1974-1976. This edition issued in 1995. DESCRIPTION: Beware, this TNT are not to be confused with the more well known TNT that you may have heard on your favorite classic rock station. And this is a good thing. This TNT was a bunch of central Pennsylvania guys with some great taste in music. On this CD there are 23 unreleased gems taken directly from original mastertapes, proving that Big Star, Raspberries, and The Droogs weren't all alone in their original quest for glory. The album is sprinkled with cover songs of The Small Faces, Creation, Balloon Farm, Chocolate Watch Band, The Choir, Moving Sidewalks, The Left Banke, Roky Erickson, etc. However, TNT also uses their love of pop and rock to create some great songs of their own (think of them as a less bombastic Raspberries with more of a garage band mentality). One of the highlights of the album (and the bands hype to infamy, all be it a blip on the rock radar) is the two tracks Pedestal and Myrah. Apparently, back in the '70s, the Left Banke single Pedestal b/w Myrah was impossible to locate by fans of the band. Therefore no one knew what those songs sounded like. TNT, decided to record their own versions of these songs without ever having heard the originals. They didn't even come close to the Left Banke versions, but they were released as a bootleg and at the time fooled a lot of people. TNT's scam was brilliant. The length of each song was exactly the same length as Left Banke's (TNT had a photocopy of the 45 so they knew how long they were supposed to be). The scam was eventually unraveled when someone realized the recordings were in stereo instead of mono. Many people to this day still consider TNT's versions to be superior to the Left Banke's. The album as a whole is best characterized as patchwork (ranging from Brian Wilson-esque songs to standard rock-fare). Definitely a great purchase if you like making mixed tapes with a few hidden gems that will wow your friends. This release comes with a super 28-page archival insert booklet and features a very young Erik Lingren, many years before joining Mission of Burma’s Roger Miller and Martin Swope in Birdsongs of the Mesozoic. Eric is the mastermind behind Arf! Arf! Records and also a fellow record collector whom I’ve had the pleasure of spending part of an evening with swapping vinyl (we had to cut it short as I was also promoting a double bill of Skeleton Crew with Birdsongs of the Mesozoic show that evening and he was needed for the performance). Other companies use resealable clear outer sleeves which are used on some import and domestic releases. If I receive an item this way it will be shipped as I received it and not opened up. Items received unwrapped are placed inside of a resealable clear outer mylar sleeve at the time they are received. All CDs that do not come in an outer packaging wrap are inspected by me prior to shipping. It is not unusual to find small imperfections in the disc, especially on European manufactured CDs; these small imperfections do no affect the play of the disc. If, for any reason, a disc does not play it is fully guaranteed by me and is returnable for refund or replacement (see my return policy below for more details). Also an unsealed jewel case may show light signs of warehouse/transit storage wear. If an unsealed jewel case is received by me broken, it will be replaced with a new jewel case before shipping; sealed CDs received with cracked/damaged jewel cases will be noted as such in the item’s description and will be shipped as is. MIX: This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style.
