What makes this book a true first edition, first printing, is both the Scribner "A" designation and colophon symbol on the copyright page. There are other first editions of this book but all different printings, starting from 2nd printing. These will not have the "A" designation and colophon on the copyright page. And this is NOT a Book Club edition!Other than the facsimile dust jacket, which is in new condition, we would rate this book in overall fair condition at best. It is complete but has some faults due to age and use. Although it is a true first edition, first printing, it was a library book. Please review all pictures. Most noteable are redesigning for lack of a better word of the outside front, side and back covers; inside front and back covers show that it was a book that was used and come from a public library; one page has a chip on the bottom and just a few pages have a very small blue ink mark. While it does have it faults, it is still a true first edition, first printing book. Approximately 50,000 were printed and who knows how many remain 3/4 of a century later.
