Description: Harper Book of Common Prayer BCP Hymnal 1928 Protestant Episcopal Leather H617 This is a very old and compact Book of Common Prayer and hymnal according to the 1928 edition for use in the Protestant Episcopal or Anglican church. Please look closely at the pictures for the certification year for the BCP and the hymnal year if that is important for you, both of which are included in the pictures of the listing. Finding a Harper BCP/Hymnal is a true feat as so few survived today. This is one of 2 or 3 I’ve ever seen out of dozens of Seabury and Oxford copies. The font is very readable, with large typeface for its size and almost no ghosting whatsoever. There is no writing that I could find anywhere in the book except for a small inscription on the blank intro page. The binding is in relatively poor condition, though mostly due to abrasions. It is still flexible, but needs a treatment and gentle usage until the natural oils soften the leather over time. The page edges are virtually free from any sign of usage except when opened in which a consistent dotted marks can be seen, which I believe to be a natural effect on paper over time, as this is nearly 80 years old. While the first and last pages have broken away from the binding, the signatures are still strong and it’s a very usable copy, just not pristine! It needs a rebind or a small repair by a rebinder. The paper is slightly stiff, but this is not from water damage. Some older copies, especially Harper and Nelson, had stiff paper that mimic books that have been submerged in water. While it isn’t nearly as bad, that’s what it may remind you of. 5.7 x 3.9 x 1.3 inches Dime used for comparison Note: I do not accept returns unless the item was not as I described because of a mistake I made.
