Description: Dragon Armor M4A2 Sherman Mk. III - Sicily 1943 No. 60309, Vintage year - 2007, Scale - 1:72 Unit - 3rd CLY (3rd County of London Yeomanry), 4th Armored Brigade - In Sept. 1939, this brigade changed its title from Heavy Armoured Brigade (Egypt) to 4th Armoured Brigade. Major Allan Grant was the second in command and took over command when the CO (Lt. Col. Geoffrey Willis) was killed by a sniper at Primosole Bridge on 17 July. The 4th Armoured saw service in the North African Campaign, the Allied invasion of Sicily, the Italian Campaign and in Northwestern Europe. Although it served under many different formations, it was most famous as part of the 7th Armoured Division, the Desert Rats. The Brigade left the 7th Armoured Division in 1943 for the Allied Invasion Force for Normandy where it served with distinction during the Battle for Caen. The 3rd CLY (Sharpshooters) became the 3rd/4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters) on 29 July 1944. Campaign - Sicily 1943 - In June 1943 it joined 13 Corps as an Independent Armoured Brigade, supporting the 5th and 50th Divisions in Sicily during Operation Husky. On the 13th of July, 3rd CLY led 4th Armoured and 15th Infantry Brigade forces through Villasmundo, Carlentini, Lentini, capturing the Primosole Bridge spanning the River Simeto and moved on to Catania. Unlike the desert, the CLY learned that in close country it was critical to have very close infantry support. On 27 July 1941, the 4th handed over its units to the 1st Army Tank Brigade and received new units based in Egypt. It was reformed again when the HQ arrived in Sicily and took control of new units there. Later it fought with the 8th Army on the East coast, taking part in the battles to cross the Sangro and the Moro Rivers. Markings - Dark green/black and light green/mud Mediterranean camouflage with various unit logos (the Brigade's famous Black Jerboa formation badge) on lower front hull and side of turret. The yellow diamond meant that this tank belonged to the Regimental HQ. Model - The M4A2 (British Sherman Mk. III) arrived on the scene in April 1942 with a new General Motors 6046 engine, welded hull with extra applique armor on the hull sides and gunner position (left side of turret). A total of 8,053 were produced until May 1944. It used a 75 mm M3 L/40 cannon. Condition - New with minor shelf wear on box. Thank you for your interest.
