Description: On offer, we have 4 pages of original chromolithographs by Theodore Jasper. These are from "Studer's Popular Ornithology - Birds Of America" published in, I believe, 1895. These are plates VI, LXIX, XCVI and XXXIX . These folio plates show the birds "drawn and colored from life" in their natural habitats. Each bird has a small number beside it for identification, sadly, we do not have those pages. These beautiful color prints measure approximately 11" X 14 1/2". They are clear on the backs. Again, these are originals, not reprints. About the artist: Theodore Jasper (1814-1897) was a German American illustrator and physician who had a life long interest in ornithology. His paintings formed the basis for "Studer's Popular Ornithology" that was published in several editions during the late 19th century. These lithographs are in excellent condition. The prints are bright, bold, clean and clear. There is the slightest bit of toning on the edges and some margins are slightly uneven from where they were cut from the book. These have been handled and have some faint wrinkles. As I am not an expert on art, please view my photographs for more description. My friend who collects everything is parting with some of his treasures. You may be interested in his other Jasper bird prints I have on separate listings at this time. I will be happy to answer any questions and, of course, combine your shipping.
